Drink in the new look Eloquesta Wines site

Eloquesta Wines is a boutique, handmade wine company owned by winemaker Stuart Olsen. Their wines come from renowned wine region, Mudgee in New South Wales, Australia.

The Eloquesta Wines Brief

Stuart felt strongly that the Eloquesta brand was in need of a fresh new look for the website. The brief: come up with a bold website that would better reflect the story and romance of the product.

Given the natural beauty of the region, Stuart was keen to prioritise sophisticated imagery on the new site.

The Process

Given the time and spatial distance between Leicester, UK and Sydney, AU, we had some natural communication hurdles to overcome! A thoroughly modern mix of video calls, Trello and email did the trick.

We spent some time together discussing the Eloquesta brand, their customers, and reviewing the existing site. The discussion covered what worked well on the website as it stood, and what needed improvement.

The key requirements included:

  • a strong visual impact that reflected the quality and beauty of the product
  • semaless integration with their online shop
  • good onsite Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

With a solid idea of the scope, we agreed a project plan and got to work.

The Build

The existing site was built on the WordPress platform and with an eCommerce plugin.

After long discussions about content we decided to stick with the existing structure for the site. We agreed that the product and content framework was sound, but we needed to identify for a new theme which would really make the pages pop.

After some research, I proposed a selection of themes which would fit the bill. We then had a meet up where we reviewed each proposal together. The final decision was to adopt the ShopIsle theme which has a lovely, contemporary look and really packs a punch visually.

It goes without saying that SEO featured in this piece of work. The product copy was given a thorough SEO audit to make sure it rose to the top of the relevant search results. Right now, a search for “boy with fruit” in Google puts Eloquesta Wines on the first page, along with a rather famous Caravaggio painting of a similar name…

What’s Next?

I’m happy to say the website refresh is only the start. I’m delighted to be able to continue working on a great product with fantastic people.

Next up: we’re going to do some further work on Search Engine Optimisation. The onsite SEO has built a respectable rank, but there’s still work to do on the offsite SEO. Watch this space!
